SUMMERVILLE -- Ashley Ridge shut down high-scoring Andrews on Thursday night in the Class AA boys soccer playoffs, gaining a 4-1 victory.

Ashley Ridge, the No. 2 seed in the Lower State, pushed its record to 17-5-1 and advanced to the third round. The Swamp Foxes will host the winner of the Waccamaw-Dillon game at 6 p.m. Saturday.

"I was really pleased with the defense," Ashley Ridge coach Nate Harris said. "They had four of the top scorers in the state, and we held them to one shot. It was a goal, but it was their only shot."

Harris singled out the defensive play of Kyle Egbert, Connor Egbert and Scott Jones.

The Swamp Foxes received balanced scoring as Kyle Egbert, Brandon Hughes, Sergio Rosas and Gabe Thompson all scored goals.

"We were winning 1-0 for the longest time," Harris said. "We distributed the ball, worked it around for the open shot, but nothing happened. But then the dam broke."

Ashley Ridge will play at least one more game at home, a place that has been kind to the Swamp Foxes.

"The fans are active," Harris said. "The team is proud. They earned the No. 2 seed and take pride in defending their pitch. It's a matter of pride."
