Area athletes pitch, hit and run to victory

Lynn Millbrook, Arleana Millbrook and Derek Sireci captured all-around titles during the Pitch, Hit and Run baseball skills competition held last Saturday at Collins Park in North Charleston.

Lynn Millbrook, representing the North Charleston Recreation Department, triumphed in the girls 7-8 category; Arleana Millbrook, also with North Charleston Recreation, won in the girls 11-12 division; and Sireci, with Mount Pleasant Recreation, captured top honors in 11-12 boys.

Other winners were: Jace Blackshear (boys 7-8) of Hilton Head Baseball Assocation; Paul Winland (9-10 boys) of Beaufort Kiwanis, and Ryan Lanning (13-14 boys) of Beaufort Kiwanis.

The winning scores are compared to other sectional all-around champions with the top three scores in each age group and gender advances to the team championships.

Several area lacrosse teams triumphed during third annual Palmetto Shootout last weekend in Mount Pleasant.

Among the winners were the U15 Mount Pleasant girls, the U15 Daniel Island Pirates, the U13 Mount Pleasant boys, the U11 Mount Pleasant boys and the U9 City boys.

The Mount Pleasant Recreation Department is hosting the annual Hershey’s Track and Field Games State Meet on June 9 at the Park West track.

The state meet, which begins at 9:30 a.m., will host district winners from this Saturday’s district tournament in West Ashley, along with winners from districts across the state.

The Dick’s Sporting Goods 8-and-under baseball team playing in the Mount Pleasant Recreation Department league put together a 7-2-1 regular-season record to win its division championship.

The team was coached by Citadel graduate Matt Whitmer and Citadel rising juniors Spencer Clower and Lucas Clark.
