The Moncks Corner Medical Center Family Open Catfish Tournament benefiting the Berkeley County Rescue Squad will be fished from 7 a.m.-3 p.m. April 30. The entry fee is $75 per boat early and $90 on the morning of the event at the William Dennis Boat Landing, across the river from Gilligan’s. The Charleston Inshore Anglers’ 24th annual Sheepshead Tournament will be fished from 6 a.m.-5 p.m. April 30. There is a $30 entry fee ($20 active duty military) with a $1,000 top prize based on 140 anglers. U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 12-8 will offer the About Boating Safely course from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. May 7 at Coast Guard Station Charleston, located on Tradd Street. The cost is $45 which includes the textbook. The class will give the boater basic knowledge needed to operate a vessel safely. Topics will include boating laws, safety equipment and basic navigation.
