SPARTANBURG — Global fitness club franchise Crunch Fitness is opening its seventh South Carolina location in Spartanburg next month.

The plan is by mid-February to operate in a roughly 40,000-square-foot facility on 140 Fernwood Drive to open in vacant space once inhabited by a BI-LO grocery store.

“Crunch genuinely has something for everybody,” said Michael Budnik, owner of the Spartanburg location.

The facility is broken up into various sections. There’s a gym floor that consists of strength training, cardio and free weight equipment, with different areas for classes such as yoga, Zumba and cycling.

Members can use a relax-and-recover area that has hydromassage beds, red light therapy, tanning beds, spray tanning booths and a lounge area. Children are also welcome at the facility. There’s an area for children with a theater, six gaming stations and a three-story, indoor playground.

Over the next 18 months, the franchise is planning to open eight locations across Anderson, Greenville and Spartanburg, Budnik said.

The Anderson location is open, and the Greenville location will open next week. Crunch Fitness plans to add one or two more Spartanburg locations and two to three more in Greenville.

The franchise is planning to open more fitness centers in Columbia and Myrtle Beach, as well. Within the next two years, Budnik said there will be around 20 to 25 Crunch Fitness locations across South Carolina.

The facility is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
