CHARLESTON — The board of the South Carolina State Ports Authority is getting a look at how the Port of Charleston performed last year and with it an indication of what shape the economy is in.

The authority board meets in Charleston on Tuesday and will receive final numbers for the fiscal year that ended June 30.

In recent months, the authority has reported that monthly container shipments had increased over the same month a year ago.

Authority president and CEO Jim Newsome has said that exports began increasing first and now imports are rebounding as well.
