LYNCHBURG — Fire has destroyed a small South Carolina police station where a patrol car was burned earlier this year.
Multiple media outlets reported the fire was reported at the Lynchburg Police Department about 4:30 a.m. Wednesday.
The building was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived. Officials have not offered a damage estimate yet.
No injuries were reported.
Lee County Acting Sheriff Daniel Simon says investigators are looking into the possibility that the fire was set. An unmarked Lynchburg police car was burned in March.
Simon says officials have ruled out an electrical problem.
Lynchburg Mayor Thompson Isaac says the fire is another blow to the cash-strapped town of about 500 people. Lynchburg is about 55 miles east of Columbia.
