Shelter seeks help identifying man

This elderly man, who has been staying at the Crisis Ministries homeless shelter, was identified as Joseph Roberts.

Crisis Ministries is trying help identify an elderly man with severe memory problems who has been staying at the Meeting Street shelter since May 7.

He told staff his name was Joseph Robinson, but the shelter has been unable to confirm this, said Nicole Bulone, Crisis Ministries community relations director.

"He has no knowledge of his past, basically," Bulone said.

He arrived after being dropped off by a public safety officer from Medical University Hospital, she said. He appeared disoriented, possibly suffering from age-related memory problems. He told staff he had two sons living "up the road" and a sister, Pat, in Moncks Corner.

He is 5 feet 5 inches tall and about 177 pounds. A thin scar runs from above his belly button to the right side of his back. He said it was from gallbladder and kidney-stone surgery.

Crisis Ministries staff estimated the man is about 85 years old.

Anyone who can help identify the man is asked to call Crisis Ministries case manager Selena Wilson at 723-9477, extension 113.
