Seven families homeless after North Charleston condo fire

North Charleston firefighters battle a fire at Building 6280 in Woodhill Place Condominiums, Tuesday, Jan. 3. Three families were displaced.

Seven families were left homeless in North Charleston by a blaze of undetermined origin at an apartment complex, officials said.

The fire happened late this afternoon at Woodhill Place apartments.

No injuries were reported.

The fire appeared to have started in an upstairs unit of building 6280, where firefighters were ripping out charred attic timbers after the blaze was brought under control.

The Red Cross was on scene to provide assistance for those left without a place to go in frigid temperatures.

The apartments are located off Rivers Avenue near Remount Road.
