SUMTER — A high school principal in South Carolina has been arrested and charged with domestic violence.

Multiple media outlets reported that Scott's Branch High School principal Bernard McDaniel was arrested Nov. 12 and charged with aggravated criminal domestic violence. He was released the next day.

The 52-year-old McDaniel left the Summerton school Wednesday to attend a national conference and is not expected back until after Thanksgiving. It was unclear if he has an attorney.

Florence Police Maj. Carlos Raines says McDaniel is accused of pulling a gun on his wife at their home in Florence on Nov. 7. The report says he had questioned his wife about text messages. Their 15-year-old son asked his father to put the gun down.

Clarendon School District 1 Superintendent Rose Wilder would not comment.
