LAURENS — Authorities in a South Carolina city hope a new fundraising effort may help them solve a 7-year-old killing.

Laurens County Sheriff Ricky Chastain is holding a news conference Monday at the VFW post in Laurens.

Chastain says he wants to draw attention to the 2003 death of Jim Bolt. Authorities say Bolt was robbed and killed while working at the Laurens VFW Hall. The case is still unsolved.

Deputies say the VFW and other groups in Laurens County have been holding events to raise reward money for information in Bolt’s case.

Chastain says the groups are donating $3,000 to Laurens County Crimestoppers at Monday’s event.
