COLUMBIA — South Carolina senators plan to resume debate on a $6 billion spending plan for the new fiscal year as a June 2 adjournment looms.

The fifth week of debate on the spending plan begins Tuesday with a mound of 26 amendments and 21 sections of the budget that have not been completed.

Legislators will need time in a wrap-up session to deal with vetoes even if the Senate passes the budget this week and agrees with the House on a compromise version of the spending plan.

Lawmakers plan to return on June 14 for that wrap-up session but they have not approved the legislation that lets them come back.
