GREENVILLE — A Spartanburg man has been sentenced to life in prison after he was convicted of killing a Tennessee man more than two years ago.

The Greenville News reported 28-year-old Julian Deandre Battle was convicted Thursday of murder in a Greenville court in the 2009 Christmas shooting death of 29-year-old Rafael Dodd of Memphis.

Battle says Dodd was shot during an argument at a Greenville apartment between two sets of cousins.

It was Battle’s second trial. A jury in September was unable to reach a verdict.

Battle apologized to members of Dodd’s family after the conviction.

A murder charge against Clintonion Dupri Owens was dropped in exchange for his testimony against Battle.
