MONCKS CORNER — A new holiday light display staged by Santee Cooper is using green power.

The Celebrate the Season display opens on Friday at the Old Santee Canal Park in Moncks Corner.

The display features thousands of lights along a one-mile drive through the park. All are energy-efficient LED lights, which are 90 percent more efficient than traditional lights. And the lights are all powered by wind, solar and landfill gas energy produced by the state-owned electric and water utility.

The lights are on display through Dec. 30, with the exception of Christmas Eve and Christmas.

Money from gate admissions goes to charities serving Berkeley County.
