COLUMBIA — A Rock Hill educator has been named the 2012 High School Assistant Principal of the Year.

The South Carolina Association of School Administrators announced Tuesday the award goes to Denise Khaalid of South Pointe High School.

York District 3 Superintendent Lynn Moody says Khaalid is an outstanding leader who is dedicated to the school’s students, parents and employees.

South Pointe Principal Al Leonard says Khaalid has helped create numerous programs at the school since it opened in 2005.

More than 1,450 students attend South Pointe.

Other finalists for the award were Jada Kidd of Wade Hampton High School in Greenville County and Nichole Boseman of Wren High School in Anderson District 1.
