A 28-year-old Charleston man is accused of holding a Romney Street woman at gunpoint in November and robbing her of $600, a laptop computer and a cell phone.
Romone Antoine Carter of 109-G N. Romney St. is charged with armed robbery, first-degree burglary, kidnapping and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime, Charleston police spokesman Charles Francis said. Carter was being held at the Sheriff Al Cannon Detention Center pending a bond hearing.
The victim, a 21-year-old woman, told police she was opening the door to her apartment on Nov. 20 about 6 p.m. when a man came up behind her and put a gun to her head, forcing her inside. The gunman then marched the woman around the apartment as he looked for cash and valuables, according to a police report.
The victim told police she waited two days to file a report because she feared retaliation from the suspect, whom she was able to name.
Carter, also known as Ramone Carter, was being sought by police since November. He was arrested Wednesday in West Ashley by the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force, Francis said.
