MYRTLE BEACH — Another candidate has entered the race in South Carolina’s new 7th Congressional District in the state’s northeast corner.
Horry County Council Chairman Tom Rice announced Wednesday, becoming the fifth Republican to enter the race. He says he will continue his county council duties during the campaign leading up to June’s primary.
Former Lt. Gov. Andre Bauer and state Rep. Thad Viers have also announced for the GOP nomination, as have Mande Wilkes and Gary Stephens.
Democratic state Rep. Ted Vick and attorney Parnell Diggs are seeking the Democratic nomination as is Dick Withington of Myrtle Beach.
The new district was created because the last Census reflected population growth in the state.
