A section of a road that's being widened in Berkeley County will be shut down for the weekend.

U.S. Highway 17A, which runs between Summerville and Goose Creek, will close between Oakley and Gaillard roads Friday evening until Monday morning, according to the U.S. Group, which is working on the project.

The highway won't close until after rush-hour traffic Friday and will open before the morning commute Monday, spokesman Earl Capps said.

Detour routes will be posted. Drivers will be directed to U.S. Highway 52.

Drivers need to be careful to observe posted speed limits on Oakley and Gaillard roads, which go through residential neighborhoods, Capps said.
