A mid-morning fire in North Charleston left a family of 12 homeless Saturday.

Firefighters from North Charleston Fire Department responded to a fire at 2213 Eleanor Drive around 9 a.m. to find smoke and flames at the single-family residence, according to fire department spokeswoman Bianca Sancic.
