Charleston County voters with questions about the upcoming election will less likely to get met with a busy signal when they call the main election hotline, 744-8683.

Beginning Monday, the county said it will add staff and create a phone bank to field questions related to the upcoming Nov. 6 election.

Election director Joe Debney said his small office often is unable to handle the heavy volume of calls in the few weeks before a major election, and he thanked County Administrator Kurt Taylor for providing the extra temporary staff.

The 744-8683 is the best number to request an absentee ballot and get other election questions answered. In Dorchester County, voters may call 832-0132 and in Berkeley, 719-4056.
