COLUMBIA — The South Carolina House’s budget-writing committee has elected another Anderson County Republican as its next chairman.
The House Ways and Means Committee on Tuesday elected 43-year-old Rep. Brian White of Anderson. He will replace Rep. Dan Cooper of Piedmont, who turned in his resignation last week. Cooper’s resignation is effective at noon June 29, after the regular session ends.
Cooper has been Ways and Means chairman since 2005. Cooper, 50, is leaving the House seat he’s held since he was elected in 1990. The committee gave Cooper a standing ovation Tuesday.
White is now first vice chairman. The committee elected Rep. Chip Limehouse of Mount Pleasant to that post.
The Ways and Means chairman is one of five members on the state’s Budget and Control Board.
