Two Lincolnville town council members both held on to their seats today, and a former council member will join them, according to unofficial results.
Incumbents Barbara Dease and Charles Duberry finished in the top three in the at-large election, with Dease proving the most popular. Former council member Leland M. Shannon apparently won the third open seat.
The town near Summerville has been grappling with a $30,000 budget deficit. After voting down a proposal to dismiss the town’s lone police officer, council raised property taxes, although not enough to make up for the deficit.
Dease, a Dorchester County planning and codes coordinator, voted against the tax increase. Duberry, an insurance salesman who has been on council nearly 30 years, said the tax hike was necessary.
Shannon, a retired Naval Shipyard welder, said he would have voted against the tax increase.
