SC’s lone female senator, in response to sexist joke, tells women to ‘step up and lead’

COLUMBIA, S.C. — State Sen. Katrina Shealy, South Carolina’s only female senator, took to the Senate floor today to encourage women to remain active in politics and step up as leaders, according to a story posted on The State’s website.

Shealy, R-Lexington, last week told The Associated Press that state Sen. Tom Corbin, R-Greenville, had called women the “lesser cut of meat,” referring to God having made Eve from Adam’s rib in the Bible, while the two were conversing over a meal.
