COLUMBIA — Texas Gov. Rick Perry’s presidential campaign is ready to open its headquarters in early-voting South Carolina.
Texas first lady Anita Perry will open the headquarters in Columbia Wednesday as the campaign rolls out endorsements from about 20 state legislators.
Perry and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney are in a close race to win South Carolina’s first-in-the-South primary on Feb. 28. A Winthrop University poll released Tuesday shows Perry as first choice with 30 percent among GOP voters and Romney at 27 percent. That put them within the poll’s margin of error of each other.
Romney state director David Raad (rad) says the campaign will be opening its headquarters soon. Romney has announced two legislative endorsements so far.
