An 11-year-old student faces assault charges after bringing a pellet gun to Ladson Elementary School and shooting two students in the legs, authorities said.
The incident occurred on Monday but no one reported the assaults until today, when the boy again showed up with the gun, according to the Charleston County Sheriff's Office.
The boy reportedly shot two students, tried to shoot two more and pointed the pellet gun at yet another pair, deputies said. None of the students was seriously injured, Maj. Jim Brady said.
Deputies have recovered the pellet gun, but investigators have not determined what prompted the boy to go after his fellow students, Brady said.
The student has been charged with one count of possession of a weapon on school grounds and six counts of assault and battery in the third degree, Brady said. The student was released to his parents on a promise to appear in family court, he said.
