Hilton Head Island GOP booster criticized for remarks

Republican presidential candidate Lindsey Graham cancelled several campaign stops in Beaufort County because of the rain storms in South Carolina.

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. — The leader of a Republican group on Hilton Head Island has been criticized for his criticism of U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham.

The Island Packet of Hilton Head reported that Tom Hatfield criticized Graham for canceling a planned visit for the First Monday Republican Lunch Group that Hatfield moderates.

Graham’s campaign had canceled three stops in Beaufort County because of the rain storms that have killed at least 11 people in South Carolina.

Hatfield wrote his group that Graham’s citing the storm was what Hatfield called a “lame excuse” to cancel.

South Carolina Republican Party Chairman Matt Moore called Hatfield’s comment “absolutely embarrassing.”
