COLUMBIA — On Monday evening, Gov. Nikki Haley and her family will welcome the public into their home for the beginning of the annual Christmas open house at the Governor’s Mansion.
The governor along with first gentleman Michael Haley, daughter Rena and son Nalin will be on hand from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. during the free event; no reservations are required.
Regular guided tours will be available Dec. 8-10 and Dec. 15-17 at 10, 10:30, and 11 a.m. They are free, but require a reservation through Nancy Bunch at 803-737-1710.
The Columbia Garden Club began decorating last Monday, as they have since 1981. The Governor’s Mansion received two live Christmas trees from the South Carolina Christmas Tree Growers Association and poinsettias grown by the Future Farmers of America from Lexington Technology Center.
A classic gingerbread house by the mansion’s executive chef Steven Jankowski will be on display as well as wreaths made and hung by the Horticulture Division of the South Carolina Department of Corrections.
Guests are encouraged to bring canned goods for Harvest Hope Food Bank.
