The South Carolina Democratic Party will host two gubernatorial debates early next month, including a June 1 debate in Charleston that will be broadcast by Live5 News.

Both debates, including the June 2 event in the Upstate, will feature Superintendent of Education Jim Rex and state Sens. Robert Ford and Vincent Sheheen.

While the Lowcountry debate will run from 8-8:30 p.m. in WCSC Channel 5's West Ashley studios, Democrats will host a watch party from 7:30-9:30 p.m. at Manny's Neighborhood Grille, 1680 Olde Towne Road.

State Democratic Party Chair Carol Fowler said the debates will show that the party has "strong, experienced candidates who will bring responsible and moral leadership back to the Governor's Mansion."

The party also is sponsoring a debate in Conway on Wednesday.
