The six Democrats and two Republicans running for Charleston County Council District 8 will be gathering for a meet-the-candidate forum Wednesday evening in Adams Run, Ophelia E. Williams of the Wiltown Community Center said Monday.

"We need to know what their interests and desires are for this community," she said. "Why should we vote for you?"

Williams said the candidates will have time to introduce themselves, and audience members will have a chance to ask questions.

The event will begin at 7 p.m. in the community center at 5779 Parkers Ferry Road, Adams Run.

Williams said the forum might last 90 minutes.

"We've heard of these folks, but we don't really know them, so we want them all to come out at one time," she said.

The candidates are all running for the open County Council seat held by Curtis Inabinett, who is not seeking re-election this year.

The District 8 race will feature a six-way Democratic primary contest among candidates Karen Hollinshead Brown, Charles Glover, Anna B. Johnson, Eric L. Mack, Richmond Truesdale Jr. and Parris Williams. The winner of the Democratic primary will face either Fran Roberts or Thomas Legare Jr., the two Republican primary candidates.
