Why I’m qualified: “I was born and raised in Awendaw and would like to continue to see the quality of life improve with some small growth.”
Goals if elected: “Create more jobs and maybe attract small businesses to our area.”

Bettye J. Simmons

Occupation: Founder, CEO of Awendaw Regional Outreach Center.

Why I’m qualified: “In addition to working for Detyens Shipyards, Inc. for nine years, Mount Pleasant Waterworks for eight years and Central Payment for three years. I am a licensed cosmetologists and Notary Public of South Carolina. In 2006 I was honored by Cambridge Who’s Who Honors Edition for successful operation of an online boutique.”
Goals if elected: “I will continue to work as a team with my fellow council members in achieving a sustainable water system, encourage growth without destroying the rural character. Improve roads and ditches, repair septic systems.”

Education: Appalachian State, BS; University of South Carolina – AD in Nursing.
Occupation: Transplant nurse with Medical University of South Carolina.

Why I’m qualified: “My care for the community of Awendaw and a strong desire to serve. My daily life experiences as a nurse and my upbringing in a small South Carolina town give me a vision for the future of my town.”
Goals if elected: “Create a monthly newsletter to communicate town business, job openings and other community needs. Identify affordable health services available to Awendaw.”
