Anne Herron announced Wednesday that she is pulling out of the Charleston City Council District 11 race.
"My husband and I talked it over, and it just wasn't the right time for us," Herron said.
Herron, a former banker, contacted the Charleston Election Commission and told its legal counsel, Lucas Padgett, that she will sign papers today to withdraw. If she does, her name won't appear on the Nov. 8 ballot, Padgett said.
The race to fill the seat now held by Councilman Tim Mallard still has three other candidates -- retired accounting executive Bill Moody, publisher Andy Brack and former Folly Beach City Councilwoman Laura Dukes Beck.
Mallard is not seeking re-election. District 11 includes parts of James Island and West Ashley.
