LEXINGTON — Authorities are asking for help finding a woman who was reported missing this week and may have been involved in a hit-and-run accident in Dorchester County.

Sherry Ann Barfield was last seen by a public health provider at her home Monday and reported missing Tuesday morning, authorities said.

Several hours later, at 11:04 p.m., a car matching the description of Barfield’s 1997 blue-green Honda Accord was involved in a wreck on Interstate 26 near mile marker 181 in Dorchester County, according to Lexington police.

Witnesses said the car immediately left the scene with a broken windshield and a missing front bumper. The car’s airbags had deployed.

Witnesses’ descriptions of the driver resembled Barfield but it’s not certain she was driving the car, according to Patti Ruff, coordinator of the S.C. Missing Person Information Center. Barfield's car's license plate number is BIS 115.

Barfield is 5 feet, 6 inches tall and weighs 230 pounds.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Lexington Police Department at 803-359-6260.
