GOOSE CREEK — Authorities are searching for a 24-year-old man who left home more than a week ago and hasn't been seen since, though investigators reported no obvious signs of foul play.
Dysneys Messias de Souza, a native of Brazil who speaks broken English, lived with a brother at 190 Middleton Drive. De Souza left in his green 1996 Honda Civic around 4 p.m. June 8 and probably had $30-$35 in his pocket, Goose Creek police Lt. Dave Soderberg said. Family reported him missing the next day.
"He has an international driver's license and a passport. He just never comes back," Soderberg said. "We've even gone around to some of our seedier areas to see if the car's around, to no avail."
De Souza is 5 feet, 11 inches tall and weighs about 160 pounds. He has brown hair and green eyes. His car is green with a black hood. Soderberg said the missing man has two brothers in the Goose Creek area who have been canvassing the local Brazilian community.
His brothers told police he had been quieter than normal in the days before his disappearance. On the Friday he was last seen, he did not go to his dishwashing job at Santi's restaurant in Summerville and again failed to show up on Sunday.
The car has a South Carolina license plate, 2376CN. Anyone with information on de Souza's whereabouts is asked to call Investigator Maggie Carver at 843-863-5200, ext. 354, or call 572-4300.
