A pit bull and a Rottweiler are suspected of killing a Chihuahua and frightening children in a Johns Island neighborhood, according to a Charleston Police Department incident report.

According to the report, an animal control officer had been called to the neighborhood in the morning on Aug. 30 when an Island Estates Drive resident reported his Chihuahua was killed by a pit bull and a Rottweiler.

The victim told police his Chihuahua had been tied to the front porch and that the larger dogs ran up and attacked it. The man tried to fight the dogs off but was unable to do so. The Chihuahua was mauled with many large puncture wounds, the report said.

Regular patrol officers had been called to the neighborhood on the same morning and they reported that neighbors were saying the two dogs had been out all night and were acting aggressive. Other residents also flagged down the animal control officer to complain about the dogs, the report said.
