Two men were electrocuted and two others received life-threatening electric shocks this afternoon while erecting a tent at Thorn Hill Farm, a 100-acre farm for the developmentally disabled on U.S. Highway 17 in McClellanville.

At 4:12 p.m., the tent apparently struck a lower-hanging power line in the area. One man died at the scene, according to Maj. John Clark of the Charleston County Sheriff's Office. The four men, all from the Charleston area, were transported to East Cooper Regional Hospital and the Medical University of South Carolina.

Emergency response officials said one of the men had come in contact with at least 18,000 volts.

The men might have been setting up for Thorn Hill Farm's fundraiser Saturday. The facility is at 10882 U.S. Highway 17.
