Charleston lawyer and former S.C. Attorney General Charlie Condon is taking an active role in backing Republican presidential hopeful and former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty.

Condon will join U.S. Rep. Joe Wilson, R-S.C., to co-chair Pawlenty's campaign in this state, which will hold a critical First-in-the-South primary early next year.

Pawlenty called Condon "a respected leader throughout the state," adding, "I am looking forward to working with him as he helps to lead this campaign to victory."

Condon said Pawlenty is "the best candidate we have and the right man to put our country back on the right track."

Condon, who served as the state's top prosecutor from 1995-2003, previously served as co-chair of John McCain's 2008 presidential primary bid here, as well as George W. Bush's and Bob Dole's efforts in 2000 and 1996, respectively.
