The Berkeley County School District is holding a 'Kick-Off to Kindergarten' for early childhood programs for the 2012-13 school year.

Today through Friday

, schools will be open extended hours. Parents should call their area school for its hours.

Programs include Head Start, Childhood Development Education Pilot Program and kindergarten.

The Head Start program is open to children ages 3 and 4, based on family income, needs assessment and space. Families should contact their school to make an appointment to apply.

The program is open to 4- year-olds based on family income eligibility. To be eligible, children must be 4 on or before Sept. 1. Kindergarten is open to all children who are 5 years old on or before Sept. 1.

To register, parents will need a registration form; the student's original birth certificate; a Medicaid number (if applicable); two proofs of residence with street address (utility bill, rental agreement, etc.); a South Carolina immunization form; applicable health records; records from previous schools; special education forms (if applicable); proof of guardianship (if student lives with someone other than parent); and proof of income (ie: a 2011 tax return) for Head Start or Child Development program.
