ST. STEPHEN — Berkeley County sheriff's deputies have arrested a woman accused of setting fire to her ex-boyfriend's house.
Investigators charged Ann Fye, 32, of 442 Karakul Lane in St. Stephen with arson.
Authorities responded to the burning house at 6:30 p.m. Monday and found the suspect arguing with the homeowner and her sister in the backyard as the fire burned.
A St. Stephen police officer already on the scene told deputies that he overheard the suspect tell the homeowner, "Yeah, I've burned your (expletive) house down," according to an incident report released on Thursday.
The 42-year-old homeowner told deputies he recently broke off his relationship with the suspect but allowed her to live there until she could find a place of her own.
The homeowner said he and his sister were outside, preparing to go to the store, when the suspect came outside and told them she set the house on fire and it was burning, according to the report.
The homeowner ran inside and saw the living room on fire. He closed some of the doors to try to contain it and called 911.
