FLORENCE, S.C. — A Florence city councilman and about 20 others have gathered to protest a recently signed bill requiring all South Carolina voters to show photo identification to vote.
But councilman Ed Robinson told the Morning News of Florence that Saturday’s gathering wasn’t just to complain about the bill signed earlier this month bu Gov. Nikki Haley. People also used the chance to get organized and make sure their friends and others in the community get a photo ID before the next election.
Robinson says not everyone had photo identification or immediate access to the documents needed to get a free ID from the state.
Robinson says he was disappointed at first by the small turnout, then was reminded by a supporter that a revolution always begins with one person standing up.
