Patriots Point Veterans Day

Patriots Point docent and veteran Hal Rigby (center) explains how the sailors in the engine room kept control of the direction and speed of the USS Laffey on the high seas to (from left) Colin Fell, Brendan Lang, Roberta Lang and Jason Lang from New Jersey, Friday, November 9, 2018. Patriots Point, in honor of all who have served our country will offer free admission to all veterans on Veterans Day Sunday, November 11, 2018 and also on Saturday, November 10, 2018. Sunday at 11 AM a bell aboard the USS Yorktown will ring 21 times as a solemn reminder of the sacrifice and service of veterans of the Great War. The 21 tolls of the bell symbolize the nation’s highest honor, based on the 21-gun salute. The event will mark the exact moment the armistice agreement that ended the war was signed 100 years ago. Following the tolling of a bell, Patriots Point volunteers will lay a wreath in memory of those who died in the war and the Charleston Community Band will perform a concert aboard the Yorktown starting at Noon.
