BEAUFORT - A new agreement has put 262 acres near the Marine Corps Air Station in Beaufort into an agreement that strictly limits development on the land.
The Beaufort Gazette reported Wednesday the conservation easement says Clarendon Farms reached the agreement with the Beaufort County Open Land Trust and the Marine Corps Air Station after two years of negotiation.
Part of the deal involves a land swap with the air station. Backers say the deal supports conservation of natural resources as well as the safety of local residents.
The Department of Defense has been working with local governments near military bases to keep residential and commercial development out of areas with high noise and accident potential.
