Malichi Williams scored a game-high 16 points and Goose Creek limited its fourth straight opponent to less than 35 points as the Gators won their Region 7-AAAAA opener at Cane Bay on Jan. 14.
Goose Creek edged the Cobras 34-28, extending its win streak to four games.
The Gators improved to 6-9 overall and 1-0 in the region.
Cane Bay, which led by a point at halftime, was led by Malakhi Stremlow’s nine points and 11 rebounds. The Cobras fell to 8-7 overall and 0-1 in the region.
Goose Creek outscored the Cobras 11-3 in the third quarter to take a seven-point lead into the final period.
In the girls game, the Lady Gators used a strong third quarter to take control, too.
They outscored Cane Bay 18-4 in the period en route to a 45-31 victory.
Aniyah Oliver had a game-high 16 points and Sharriah Green contributed 11 for the Lady Gators (13-3, 1-0 Region 7-AAAAA).
The win was the 69th straight in region play for Goose Creek.
Alaina Nettles led Cane Bay with 10 points.
The Lady Cobras fell to 7-7 overall and 0-1 in the region.
In other region games, Stratford was swept at James Island and Wando took down Berkeley twice in Moncks Corner.
