ATLANTIC BEACH - Atlantic Beach has taken a step toward getting rid of its motorcycle festival in exchange for help from other governments in the area.

The Sun News of Myrtle Beach reports Town Council voted 3-1 Monday to not start planning for the annual Bikefest held each May and discussed agreements with Myrtle Beach, Horry County and North Myrtle Beach.

Atlantic Beach Town Manager Kenneth McIver says the other governments have offered to evaluate the town's water system, help with planning and zoning, include Atlantic Beach police in training classes and develop other festivals.

McIver says he will have more details about the plans next month.

Mayor Retha Pierce voted against the move. She supports the motorcycle festival which she says helps keep the town afloat.
