The Post and Courier provides a forum for our readers to share their opinions, and to hold up a mirror to our community. Publication does not imply endorsement by the newspaper; the editorial staff attempts to select a representative sample of letters because we believe it’s important to let our readers see the range of opinions their neighbors submit for publication.

Letter: Equal pay day

  • Updated

Equal Pay Day is April 4 and is the symbolic day when women’s earnings catch up to men’s earning from the previous year.

On average women make 80 cents for every $1 men make in South Carolina. The gap is even worse for women of color.

Women actually graduate to a pay deficit as female college graduates are paid less even with identical qualifications.

We have work to do so contact your legislators and ask them to support equal pay for equal work.
