No Charleston official was evident at the international conference on sea level rise in North Charleston earlier this year. But two weeks before the end of his 40-year reign, Mayor Joe Riley submits a vague, inadequate strategy to prepare Charleston for this very real danger. What’s this about?

I suspect it’s his way of not getting blamed for future devastation from the rising sea, a threat that has been ignored by Riley’s administration for years. And there’s the closed meeting with the Beach Company over the Sergeant Jasper project. I hope Mayor Riley didn’t seal the deal with a good word and a handshake.
