As a staunch supporter of the three Rs of the environment — reduce, reuse and recycle — I see that Charleston County can make good this philosophy in choosing a location for the new James Island branch library.
By re-purposing the empty building in the Bi-Lo shopping center on Folly Road, we can save over $2 million, have a library right on the bus route and at a traffic light for ease of access, provide plenty of parking for library patrons and be centrally located.
But most of all, using that space will finally fix an eyesore that everyone bemoans. We all hate Folly Road traffic and having the library in the center of James Island will ease the pain of driving all the way down that road to a distant library site. This is a golden opportunity for Charleston County for many reasons. Don’t let it pass by to be regretted later.
