Dante said, “The hottest places in hell are reserved for those who, in times of great moral crisis, maintain their neutrality.”
It is unfortunate that so many of our state and federal lawmakers have refused to take simple steps to keep firearms out of the hands of people who should not have access to guns — the mentally ill, convicted felons or people on Homeland Security’s “no fly” list. Whether out of deference to the NRA or for some other reason, it is time for our lawmakers to take tangible steps to demonstrate they truly wish to reduce gun violence within our state and throughout our country.
