The S.C. African American Chamber of Commerce applauds Gov. Nikki Haley for calling for removal of the Confederate flag from the Statehouse grounds.

The massacre of nine men and women as they prayed at Mother Emanuel AME Church in Charleston left our nation shaken, angry and heart-broken. But there truly is a silver lining, and our state will emerge better and stronger than ever.

The Confederate flag represents division; that’s not something that should be celebrated, especially at a time when the state grapples with its real identity.

The removal of this flag will help make South Carolina a place of opportunity for all South Carolinians. Gov. Haley is to be commended for taking this bold step. It truly is a Great Day in South Carolina.
