I recently moved back here from a town near Macon, Ga. I have learned that the mayor of Charleston wants to spend over $75 million on an African-American museum.

The mayor in Macon did the same thing, and now there it sits with few people going through the doors.

The population of Macon is about 70 percent black. Not sure what percentage Charleston is, but all that money could be spent in a positive way improving the lives of the black community on the East Side with better facilities, parks, etc. A smaller museum would be fine somewhere else.

Black citizens could use that money to upgrade their lives.
