Let’s all join Kiawah Island, Seabrook Island, Folly Beach, Isle of Palms and Sullivan’s Island. Shut everyone out except the people who live there. Shut off all public funds to these places, too.
Take care of your own roads and sandless beaches and, God forbid, future damage from hurricanes. We will not come and help you again because we are not welcome. Let’s gate off the peninsula south of Broad, too. Why should we be allowed to enjoy it?
We can gate off where I live, too, in the wonderful ACE Basin, right on the Edisto River. Don’t come out here with your kayaks, canoes, boats and inner tubes to float down and fish in my river. You and your children might learn something about the wildlife, forest and fish, or might just have fun.
I won’t miss your kids’ squeals of delight and bright shining eyes or their sweet laughter. I want the river all to myself because I’m that important and special and entitled.
When you stay home that day, I won’t have to spend a whole 10 minutes picking up the trash you left behind, even though seeing your adventures was entertaining, funny and heartwarming.
So I’m sending a note to the public — we are shutting down the Edisto River and ACE Basin.
