I hope each and every church and synagogue in Charleston will use this weekend to speak out, in no uncertain terms, against the hateful words of Donald Trump here in our city.

Adding insult to injury, Mr. Trump made these gutwrenchingly un-American remarks at a site where we honor those who gave their all, often the ultimate, fighting hate and fascism and protecting cherished American values.

It is the least our faith communities can do to honor that sacrifice and “never forget.” If we forget, we are bound to repeat, and if we follow this path, this time we will be the ones on the wrong side of history.
